A police dog is making a ‘remarkable recovery’ after being stabbed 12 times for biting a burglary suspect on Wednesday, July 5 in Troy, New York.

The police dog, a Belgian Malinois named Norbi from the Troy Police Department, bit the suspect and played an important role that lead to the successful arrest.

The Troy Police Department announced that Norbi has been successfully released from the Upstate Veterinary Specialties and is making a ‘remarkable recovery’.

According to the department, during the incident, Norbi and his handler found the suspect in a wooded area and attempted to take him to custody.

While being taken into custody, the suspect began to stab the police canine with a knife multiple times. In turn, the police canine’s handler and other officers engaged with the suspect in an attempt to apprehend the suspect and help Norbi.

The police canine was immediately taken to a nearby veterinary for emergency treatment for the stab wounds he sustained.

In an earlier statement, the police department said that “K9 Norbi is in critical but stable condition.” They also said that the canine was in “the compassionate and excellent care of our partners at Upstate Veterinary Service.”

According to Upstate Veterinary Specialties, they are thankful for the staff that took care of the canine, but are “even more thankful” to police canine Norbi for staying strong throughout the treatment.

The Troy Police Department also revealed, “Canine Norbi is expected to make a full recovery and will be returning to active duty after a period of rest and rehabilitation.”

Meanwhile, the suspect sustained K9 bite injuries and was treated at a local area hospital. And he is currently in Troy Police Department custody.
